Transformers Animated is a series from Cartoon Network, reimagining the epic struggle between the Autobots and the Decepticons for a new generation. This time the struggle is for the all powerful Allspark, which falls into the posession of a small crew of Autobots. Hunted by the Decepticons, the Autobots are forced to crash land on the alien planet of Earth. Awakening stranded after 50 years in stasis, they come to live among the population of a futuristic Detroit. The Autobots face off against a series of human villains and their mighty Decepticon foes, who seek to possess the AllSpark. Though they were originally a lowly space bridge repair crew, these five Autobots must rise to their circumstances to deal with threats large and small.

The series is only losely related to any previous Transformers fiction before it, though several references are made to each. A clip of the first episode of Generation 1 is played as a history lesson in the first episode of Animated, for example, and the all spark is included as the prize in reference to the movie fiction. The animation style is controversial amongst fans, to say the least, but the excellent voice cast and strong characters make it an entertaining watch for fans of all ages. The series forgoes the continual storylines of the Unicron Trilogy cartoons to return to the episodic approach of Beast Wars and Generation 1; most episodes are standalone stories, but with larger story arcs that stretch through the whole series.
